AI, health data and cybersecurity: When protection and innovation go hand in hand

Join a webinar on cyber security and data management in hospitals and gain insight into new research from Harvard University and Aarhus University.
The healthcare industry is undergoing a data revolution, with AI and digital technologies changing the way we collect, analyze, and secure medical information.
While hospitals and researchers are taking advantage of these advances, they must also navigate complex challenges – and find the right balance between innovation, privacy, security and regulation.
This webinar consists of two sessions where we dive into two crucial aspects of health data management:
1. Generative AI, synthetic data, and cybersecurity in hospitals: Filling the data gap safely
v/Associate Professor Mohammad Jalali, Harvard University and MASS General
Focus is on the role of Generative AI and synthetic data in addressing healthcare’s data gaps. While synthetic data offers a promising solution for training AI models and enhancing cybersecurity without exposing sensitive patient information, it also raises concerns about accuracy, bias, and potential exploitation by cyber threats. This talk explores how hospitals can leverage synthetic data responsibly to strengthen security while minimizing risks.
2. Integrating healthcare data from diverse sources while meeting regulatory requirements
v/Professor Christian Damsgaard Jensen, Aarhus University
Modern healthcare systems integrate medical data from many different sources, from self-reporting by patients and data from (implanted) medical devices to results of medical examinations and laboratory tests conducted by healthcare professionals. Data from different sources may originally have been collected for different purposes (diagnosing the patient, correct dosage of medicine, …) which may be covered by different regulatory requirements. We examine this problem and describes work in progress at the University of Aarhus to address this issue and develop access control policies and mechanisms that guarantees regulatory compliance.
The webinar is in English.
International Network on Cybersecurity in Hospitals
Data is one of the keys to a sustainable and personalized healthcare system with the patient and healthcare staff at the center. Digitalization and data-based treatment and care are a priority, and this places enormous demands on data and cybersecurity. The partners CenSec, DigitalLead, Innovation Centre Denmark, Boston and Danish Life Science Cluster have joined forces to create a network that will focus on, among other things, the escalating global threats and tightened regulations that create unique challenges for hospitals and healthcare providers – and not least for their innovation.
