AI solutions can only succeed when the clinic and supplier work together – and everyone must understand the complexity

We have not yet found the golden standard for how to implement AI solutions in the clinic. Therefore, we all have a shared responsibility to empower each other so that AI can become an accessible value-creating tool that increases safety for both employees and patients. This was the case, for example, when the CAIDX partnership presented a number of tools that will facilitate the implementation of AI in the clinic.

There is great uncertainty in the healthcare sector about how to tackle the great potential within AI. Which solutions create the most value and where should we put our focus? How do we ensure that all regulations are complied with, and who is responsible?

The European partnership CAIDX – Clinical Artificial Intelligence-based Diagnostics – has created at toolbox er klar med en værktøjskasse, that will make the process of developing and implementing AI solutions more structured, secure and collaborative.

The Clinical AI Pathway Toolbox was recently presented at the conference Together4Health i Aalborg.

We need to understand the complexity of the healthcare sector to be able to integrate AI

Meet Innovation Manager Jacob Ravn, Innovationsklinikken, Region North Jutland.

Common goals and contributions from all

The partnership behind CAIDX consists of professionals from industry, healthcare, consultants and knowledge institutions from six countries. The collaboration has been effective despite different starting points and needs, says Karen Lindegaard, project manager from  Danish Life Science Cluster.

– We have been able to work across countries in a value chain all the way from the companies’ ideas, via the innovation departments and all the way out to the needs in the clinic, she says.

Stina B. Jonasson, Project Manager, Skåne University Hospital adds:

– All partners have been open and honest about our wishes and goals for the project, and strong project management has ensured that everyone has maintained their commitment and contribution.

Digital AI Toolbox Content

Developed with and for healthcare professionals and businesses, the toolbox offers:

  1. Clinical AI Pathway Guide – A structured step-by-step guide to developing and implementing AI solutions in the healthcare sector.
  2. Secure Data – A document focusing on data security and cybersecurity that helps minimize risks.
  3. Project Tools – Three tools for needs assessment, project strategy and collaboration agreements in public-private partnerships.
  4. Implementation and Change Management Guide – Helps managers and project teams with organizational embedding of AI.
  5. Supplementary Resources – Documents from the CAIDX project and external sources that support the development process.

Each tool is supported by short tutorials with a brief introduction to the tool and how to use it, as well as other material that can be downloaded for free.
