More and better investments in life science – new network will make investors wiser in the life science area

Danish Life Science Cluster takes over the Life Science Invest network, which works to attract more and stronger investments in the life science area. In 2024, the network engaged more than 250 participants in an attempt to mature investors and provide guidance on funding within healthtech, medtech, and biotech.

There is a need for better and stronger investments in Danish life science if the industry is to live up to the government’s Strategy for Life Science towards 2030.

That is why Jesper Højberg Christensen, business angel and editor-in-chief of Bootstrapping.dk, took the initiative last year to form a life science investor network with support from the Novo Nordisk Foundation.

In collaboration with, among others, DTU Science Park and DTU Entrepreneurship, the network has grown strongly, and over five meetings brought together people across Denmark with a common interest in investing in life science, medtech, and biotech, says Steen Donner, CEO, DTU Science Park.

– Together, you can do much more than you can alone – and when we look at investments in medtech innovation, it makes a big difference that we work together across disciplines. It is fantastic that 250 participants have interacted with each other over the past year – they have talked to each other, sparred with each other and together looked at exciting investments that can lift innovations in Danish and international life science, says Steen Donner.

Danish Life Science Cluster to continue the network

The Life Science Investor Network is aimed at private foundations, family foundations, Business Angels and other investors with an interest in innovation in the life science area.

Danish Life Science Cluster will ensure that Denmark’s entire financial ecosystem is connected and will therefore reach out to all interested parties to jointly build a new platform for life science investments.

According to Troels Keldman, Senior Consultant, DTU Entrepreneurship, the network will, among other things:

  • Facilitate access to capital and expertise between healthtech, medtech and biotech
  • Streamline networking opportunities for investors and companies
  • Ensure a robust flow of activities that enable co-investments between venture capital, business angels and private foundations.

Danish Life Science Cluster will now continue to run the network together with DTU Science Park, Health Tech Hub Copenhagen, and others.

Specific needs and competencies must be highlighted

Diana Arsovic Nielsen, CEO, Danish Life Science Cluster

CEO of Danish Life Science Cluster, Diana Arsovic Nielsen, is looking forward to driving Life Science Invest further in collaboration with skilled partners.

– The network has already activated strong profiles in the area, and the activities exude a high level of professional knowledge. We look forward to continuing the work to increase investors’ knowledge and understanding by, for example, bringing together Danish and international experts. We will also look at the possibility of using the network as a matchmaking platform, where specific needs and competencies can be linked, says Diana Arsovic Nielsen.

Life Science Invest is currently being evaluated, and then additional funding will be sought for the operation of the network.
