New Danish partnership on the European Health Data Space (EHDS) – Danish Life Science Cluster helps to bring together parties

The Danish Life Science Cluster is now helping to put together a strong, cross-sectoral partnership that will work to ensure Denmark’s influence and opportunities in the upcoming European Health Data Space (EHDS) – one of the most ambitious health data initiatives in the EU’s history. Representatives from the public and private sectors are invited to attend.
In collaboration with IQVIA, the Danish Life Science Cluster is now taking the first step towards bringing together public and private actors who will ensure that Denmark stands strong when EHDS – European Health Data Space becomes a reality. We aim to establish a national framework for collaboration, debate, and action on the health data of the future – with clear Danish fingerprints.
The purpose is to gather a broad and committed forum of public and private actors who will contribute to strengthening Denmark’s position in life science and health innovation.
We want Denmark to contribute to the development of guidelines and technical specifications to ensure secure and efficient cross-border data exchange. Together, we can take on this task in the partnership.
Will create optimal conditions for technology and research
– We want to bring together actors across the healthcare system to utilize the great opportunities in better use of health data that EHDS provides – for the benefit of patients, research and innovation. Denmark has a strong tradition of research and innovation in the health sector. Through collaboration with healthcare actors, we can create optimal conditions for data-driven research and development of new technologies, says Jesper Eriksen, Head of Data Analytics, Healthcare Nordics, IQVIA.
The Danish Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2025 is an obvious opportunity to kick off a partnership that aims to strengthen Denmark’s position in life science and health innovation in the EU and internationally.

EHDS will revolutionize the use of health data
The EHDS is a groundbreaking EU regulation that will be the foundation for a more connected, data-driven and patient-centric healthcare sector in Europe.
The EHDS will strengthen citizens’ control over their own data and will also contribute to health data being shared securely and efficiently across national borders. This is both primary use (patient treatment) and secondary use (research, innovation and policy development).
Denmark must be at the table
Denmark has strong traditions in health data and research. But action is required if we are to ensure that Danish needs and values are reflected in the EHDS implementation – and that Danish actors make the most of the new opportunities. That’s why we’re establishing a partnership that:
- Collects knowledge and experience across sectors
- Creates dialogue and joint recommendations
- Facilitate collaboration on innovation and data use
- Creates visibility about Danish competencies and positions – e.g. through events, podcasts and an upcoming white paper
The following activities are already planned in the Partnership for the EHDS:
In Denmark, EHDS will be able to interact with initiatives such as Digital Health Denmark and data platforms that are already in use.
Danish actors are participating in several pilot projects that are currently testing solutions and helping to build IT infrastructure for EHDS.
An example is the TEHDAS2 project (Towards a European Health Data Space), which develops common guidelines and technical specifications to facilitate access to health data for secondary purposes within the EU.
With the EHDS, we are on our way to a new digital health landscape in Europe. Let’s make sure that Denmark helps shape it.
