Strategic long-term partnerships are key to solving major and complex societal problems. To strengthen these partnerships, a combination of inclusive funding models, good organizational support, trust, motivation, commitment and effective communication is needed.

This report Foundation of the Danish Lighthouse Life Science shows how strong public-private partnerships are key to both better health and economic growth.

The report focuses on describing the foundation of the Danish lighthouse model in life science – with a particular focus on structures, roles and processes that support collaboration and innovation.

It covers, among other things:

  • Strategic partnerships as a tool to address complex societal challenges
  • Inclusive financing models to ensure the participation of both large and small actors
  • Organizational support and skills development to reduce administrative burdens and promote effective communication
  • Trust, relationships and communication – both personal and professional are necessary for transparency and commitment
  • User-centred processes – common perspectives and meeting real needs
  • KPI model for impact measurement

This report introduces a new KPI model for collaboration and change under the auspices of Lighthouse Life Science.

The main themes are:

  • Theory of Change: From trust → pilot projects → scaling → impact
  • The importance of the five domains: Environment, Social, Governance, Health & Well-being and Growth
  • The double effect – measure both the impact of society and its effect
  • Combine numbers and stories: For a credible and scalable evaluation

The report has been prepared by a consortium under the Danish Life Science Cluster with contributions from Lundbeck, Novo Nordisk, Nordic Healthcare Group and the Nordic Wellbeing Academy, among others.

Recommendations for the best possible growth

At the beginning of 2025, Lighthouse Life Science published the report Learnings of the Danish Lighthouse Life Science, which, among other things, provides a number of recommendations for reaching the full potential for growth and better health.
