Lighthouse Life Science – Health where you are

‘Health where you are’ is the third phase of Lighthouse Life Science. This phase focuses on developing new digital and technological health solutions that make it easier for citizens to get help at home, at work and elsewhere. The third phase of Business Lighthouse Life Science builds on the first two phases, Healthy Weight and Mental Health.

Lighthouse Life Science facilitates that more than 20 Danish SMEs join forces with strong lead partners in five innovation collaborations, which together create a holistic test and development track under the theme “Health where you are”.

With the upcoming health reform, the projects will move resources and decision-making power closer to the citizen and will follow the entire life course: prevention, self-monitoring and home treatment, maintaining work capacity, strengthened senior well-being and responsible antibiotic treatment.
Pension funds, civil society, workplaces, municipalities, regions and tech companies invest together with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The broad partnership anchors gains where the effect occurs with the citizen, and enables testing, documentation and scaling of Danish solutions regionally and nationally.

The project is divided into 3 parts:

  • Innovation collaborations with companies
  • Development of competencies for small and medium-sized companies in life science
  • Test-, demonstration- and development facilities (DataFair)

Innovation collaborations

The project brings together companies, municipalities, hospitals and research environments in a number of innovation collaborations. Here, a number of solutions that can reduce inequality in health and strengthen the growth of Danish companies, are developed and tested. At the same time, it creates better opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to test their technologies and gain access to knowledge and networks.

The goal is to:

  • Promote cooperation between public and private actors
  • Develop and scale new healthcare solutions with commercial potential
  • Strengthen Denmark’s position as an international frontrunner in life science

Test-, demonstration- and development facilities

Establishment of a national IT infrastructure that will give Danish SMEs quick and secure access to health data so that they can develop and test innovative solutions for the health sector. The platform will be called OSCAR HOST and will break down existing barriers to the use of health data – at the same time it will ensure full control and data security for public authorities. The project builds on previous Grand Solution projects and creates synergy with national strategies such as the Health Reform and the Life Science Strategy.

The goal is to:

  • Strengthen Denmark’s competitiveness
  • Promote commercialization of new solutions
  • Ensure a sustainable platform that can be operated on market terms after the end of the project.

Development of competencies for small and medium-sized companies in life science

The Danish life science strategy points out that the shortage of qualified labour is one of the biggest challenges for the growth potential in Danish life science. The new training programmes will meet this challenge and contribute to creating a future-proof competence infrastructure and long-term competitiveness in Danmark. The new training programmes will be based on documented needs in the life science industry.

The training courses that will be held around the country will include:

  • New industry-oriented courses – e.g. in medical chemistry and quality assurance
  • Practice-oriented modules such as academy and diploma courses
  • Mentoring and general studies activities
  • Assessment of employees’ competence needs and individual training plans
  • Short flexible competence courses (micro-credentials)
