Nybrud

Nybrud is a research and innovation project in collaboration between Steno Diabetes Center Aarhus, Central Denmark Region’s IT department and Danish Life Science Cluster. The project is funded by Central Denmark Region with DKK 1.87 million through their healthinnovation pool and runs until the end of 2022.

Nybrud focuses on preventing associated diseases for people with type 2 diabetes. Through research and development of new technological solutions for both citizens and healthcare professionals.

Data

With data from the Tværspor database, Nybrud has a unique opportunity to investigate whether new factors, or interactions between factors, can be identified to explain the development of associated diseases for type 2 diabetes.

With this knowledge, the aim is to help people with type 2 diabetes live even better lives. A life balanced between the highest possible quality of life, optimal treatment, and the greatest possible independence from the healthcare system.

Part One

In collaboration with Enversion, we are building AI models (artificial intelligence) that can find and analyze new patterns in the Tværspor data.  This work will provide some conclusions whether there are new factors (or interactions between factors) in the data that could explain associated diseases.

In addition, Nybrud is working on collecting pro-data (patient-reported data) from people with type 2 diabetes. Participants in the research project have the opportunity to submit well-being and behavioural data on a regular basis. Data that can be reported through their mobile phone will provide additional knowledge to support the development of new solutions.

In the future, citizens’ own engagement in sharing data with health professionals will provide some new tools which can support communication between citizens and health professionals greatly, improve follow-up on care, as well as the possibility to make preventive care. In Nybrud we want to experiment and do research in what the digital pro-data tools can provide.

Today, there is a great amount of evidence-based knowledge on type 2 diabetes, including the development of associated diseases. The combination of the existing knowledge and the knowledge gathered in this project will be the inspiration to develop new innovative, scalable products and solutions which support prevention and treatment in the field of type 2 diabetes.
