China Market Access via Fast-track Approval Procedures for Medical Devices in Hainan
Learn how you can enter the rapidly growing Chinese healthcare market for medical devices via preferential policies in Hainan Boao Lecheng International Medical Zone that can serve as a launch pad to the rest of mainland China.
Today, the Chinese healthcare market is considered one of the most important (export) Nordic Life Science products and know-how markets. Today, the Chinese market for medical devices is the world’s second largest with 20% global share and an estimated value of RMB 800 billion (USD 125 billion) in 2020 and an annual growth rate of 20% since 2015.
With the release of the overall plan for the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP) on 1 June 2020 and the latest “Catalogue of Encouraged Industries in Hainan FTP” issued on 27 January 2021, special incentives are granted to “Health services such as high-end professional medical care, rehabilitation and nursing” and the “Application of high-end medical equipment and new medicines”.
To facilitate this, the Hainan Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone has been granted preferential policies with the aim to create a world-class international medical destination for advanced medical treatment, rehabilitation, medical R&D, and technology innovation in China.
Boao Lecheng Medical Zone is a designated “Special Healthcare Zone” in China that supports the rapidly growing Chinese healthcare market and treatment demand by offering fast-track approval procedures that make it easier to register, import, test, and sell medical devices and medicines that are not yet registered in China but approved overseas with an FDA license or CE mark.
To give Nordic life science companies a safe and easier access to the Chinese healthcare market, the Nordic Life Science Platform has been established in cooperation with the Boao Lecheng Medical Zone to reduce the challenges and time to market in China by offering expert advice and supporting services.
